Ebba Svensson
Ebba Svensson (b. 1997) lives and works in Stockholm.
Svensson’s paintings draw inspiration from nature and landscape, yet the places she depicts remain distant and elusive. She is drawn to overgrown terrain, the movement of water, and the shifting light of darkness and dusk. In her recent works, she seeks to evoke an ominously unsettling atmosphere.
Noise is a central concept for Svensson, evoking the tension between painting and external reality. Her focus has recently shifted from visual subject matter to the painting process itself. She cuts the bristles of her brushes short and wraps them with tape, creating blunt tips that she likens to sewing implements or pastel crayons.
The notion of noise also aptly characterises the seemingly pulsating surfaces of her paintings. Svensson sees her work as continuing the legacy of Post-Impressionism. Ultimately, her paintings resemble fleeting snapshots of reality – mutable, unstable, and perpetually unpredictable.
