Elin Odentia
Elin Odentia (b. 1990) lives and works in Stockholm.
“I love entering the realm of painting. There has always been a stillness there that I need. For me, process and material have a lot to do with finding a safe space, feeling at home.”
Odentia’s recurring three-dimensional forms are reminiscent of classical architecture. Her work draws from modernist and abstract traditions, while also echoing Renaissance painting and architectural principles. She additionally engages with the legacy of Christian art, including icons and their symbolic use of colour.
Earlier in her career, Odentia painted human figures and portraits, but she gradually became fascinated by colour and form as autonomous subjects. A sense of human presence nevertheless continues to resonate conceptually within her work. Despite the universality of abstract art, Odentia views her paintings as deeply personal, closely tied to the period of her life in which they were created.
